Do I Need Hearing Aids?
“Do I need hearing aids?” is a question that many people are afraid to ask. Often you are surrounded by family, friends, or coworkers who notice your hearing loss much more quickly, but it takes much longer to be sure for yourself. It can be hard for you to be subjective about how well you actually hear. The perception that one hears well is often the root of denial. So how do you know if hearing aids may be right for you?
Here’s a good place to start.
Please taking the following quiz:
- Have family members or friends told you that you have hearing loss?
- Do people you speak to seem to mumble or not speak clearly?
- Do you have difficulty understanding speech of women and children?
- Do you have trouble hearing conversations in places where there is background noise like in a restaurant or crowded room?
- Do you have difficulty hearing over the phone?
- Do you often have to ask people to repeat?
- Do people mention that you play the t.v. too loud?
- Do you ever get confused about where sounds come from?
- Do you ever find yourself guessing what a person is saying to you?
Did you answer yes to two or more of the questions?
If so, it would be a good idea to come in for a free hearing consultation to determine if you need a hearing test. The quiz cannot determine if you have hearing loss or how much, but it will suggest if our audiologist should look a little closer at your hearing.

Understanding your hearing loss, lifestyle, and capability is paramount to give you a proper recommendation. Our evaluation takes all aspects of a patient’s situation into account to help you make an informed decision for your best benefit.
Hearing Aid Fitting
Real Ear Measures & Custom Programming
Verification is one of the most important steps to make sure your hearing devices work for you. We use tiny in the ear microphones to measure the acoustic space of your ear canal and how your hearing device outputs soundwaves in the canal. Based on these measurements, we then fine tune your hearing devices to the exact recommended prescription. Less than 1 in 5 audiologists or providers of amplification bother to perform this essentual step for lack of training or equipment. This is one of the biggest problems facing hearing aid wearers in this region.
Hearing Aid Repair & Services
Hearing aids may need occasional repair and tuning. If you suspect your hearing aid needs service or reprogramming, call us. Many repair services can be completed onsite.

We work with a multitude of manufacturers offering a variety of aids, which allows us to fit you with the best hearing aid for your needs.

How Are Hearing Aids Today Different?
A hearing aid is a small electronic device that you wear in or behind your ear. It makes some sounds louder so that a person with hearing loss can listen, communicate, and participate more fully in daily activities. There are three basic parts to a hearing aid: a microphone, amplifier, and speaker. The basics haven’t changed for decades.
What has changed significantly is how a hearing aid manipulates the sound as it enters the hearing aid and eventually sends the signal into your ear canal. These advances include:
- Automatic volume adjustments
- Automatic adaptation to background noise
- Built in FM, Infrared and Bluetooth technology
- Water-resistant technology
- Hearing aids look better than ever before coming in a variety of shapes, colors and styles
Advanced Technology
BLUETOOTH TECHNOLOGY
Bluetooth technology is a recent advance in hearing aids. It is a way to send digital information wirelessly over short distances. Bluetooth technology works to allow two hearing aids to communicate wirelessly with each other and also allows the user to connect to devices in their home and car, like a computer, GPS, and cell phone.
RECHARGEABLE HEARING AIDS
Many of the devices we use every day can be powered by one or two types of batteries, rechargeable batteries or disposable batteries. Hearing aids are no different. Rechargeable hearing aids are becoming more popular every year.
From Our Clients
“I highly recommend Dr. Massey! I expected to be sold a new hearing aid. He customized the programming of my existing hearing aid -far more advanced programming than previous doctors -and informed me that an extended warranty was available, as mine was out of warranty. He took the time to call the manufacturer. I walked away so surprised that I never knew this level of hearing could be achieved nor this level of service. I am now a client for life. ”
